THUG LIFE RIP TUPAC

September 13 marks the death of a Hip Hop Icon, Tupac Shakur. A celebrated figure in the Hip Hop Community as well as a controversial character in the media. Still the name Tupac, his music & work influences current rappers, anybody and everybody that grew up in the 90’s, and the younger generations of today.

The words THUG LIFE can also be synonymous to Tupac. After reflecting at the post-tupac years, I feel the words THUG LIFE and it’s purpose may have been lost in translation overtime. That really people today associate thug life with being bad ass, being gangster, being a thug. Pineapple express depicts and accurately shows how the real meaning of thug life has been lost, as Danny Mcbride cocks back the shotgun and yells the phrase.

Yes, there are gangsters, thugs, goons that exist in neighborhoods all across the world.I am not denying that. But truly Tupac is too much of a genius mind for “THUG LIFE” to have just that sole meaning. Tupac touched all lives , he was the agent for change, an inspiration to many, and the Codes of THUG LIFE are a testament to that:

The Code of THUG LIFE, was an attempt to remedy cocaine & senseless violence going on in african american communities back then.  As well as an attempt to establish some order in the streets, and at the same time keep the community safe while letting gangsters be gangsters.

I don’t know to what extent these issues exist today, but I am writing to enlighten anybody willing to listen and be a witness to Tupac’s work. So this is to 2pac, 15 years after his death and still lives on through many. RIP.
